Discover More, Spend Less: The Best Value for Long Stays

Dublin is a city that deserves time to explore. Whether you are solo trekking or traveling with family, our "Stay Longer for Less" package is designed to give you the ultimate city experience without the premium price tag.

Stay 2 Nights: Enjoy an immediate 5% discount on your stay.

Stay 3 Nights or More: Save 10% off our regular rates.

Complimentary Breakfast Included:  When you book this package on our official site, you receive a full Irish breakfast every morning - a value of €12.50 per person, per day, absolutely free.

Is it worth staying in Dublin for more than two nights?
Absolutely. Staying three nights or more allows you to see the city highlights (Trinity College, Guinness Storehouse, EPIC Museum) while still having time for a day trip to the coast or countryside. Our 10% long-stay discountmakes this the most economical way to experience Ireland.

Does the hotel have facilities for long-stay guests?
Yes. For guests staying several days, we offer bicycle storage, a Fitness Suite, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi for planning your next day's route.

What is the "Direct Booking" breakfast worth?
By booking directly on our website, you save €12.50 per person every day. For a couple staying 4 nights, that is a €100 saving on breakfast alone, in addition to our 10% room discount.

What is the best way to get to the hotel from Dublin Airport?
The most convenient options are the Dublin Express (Route 782) or the Aircoach (Route 700). Both depart frequently from outside Terminals 1 and 2 and stop on O'Connell Street, which is less than a 5-minute walk from our front door. A taxi from the airport typically takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.

Do I need a power adapter for my electronics?
Ireland uses the Type G three-pin plug (230V). US travelers will need a step-down transformer for high-voltage items like hair dryers (though we provide these in every room!) and a simple plug adapter for laptops, tablets, and smartphone chargers.

Does the hotel offer early check-in for overnight flights?
Official check-in is from 4:00 PM. However, we know US flights often land in the early morning. While we cannot guarantee a room will be ready before 4:00 PM, you are welcome to pre-register and leave your luggage in our secure storage area for free while you go grab breakfast or start sightseeing.

Is the water safe to drink from the tap?
Yes, the tap water in your guest room is perfectly safe and treated to high international standards. If you prefer bottled water, it is available at the Plaza Bar & Grill or at several convenience stores within 50 meters of the hotel.

Are there laundry facilities or services available?
Yes, we provide a professional same-day dry cleaning and laundry service (Monday to Friday). Simply drop your laundry bag at reception by 9:00 AM, and it will be returned to you by the evening.

How close is the hotel to the main tourist sites?
We are exceptionally central. You can walk to Temple Bar in 10 minutes, Trinity College (Book of Kells) in 12 minutes, and the Guinness Storehouse is a short 15-minute hop on the Luas (tram) which stops just around the corner.

Can the hotel help with booking day tours?
Absolutely. Our 24-hour reception team can assist you with booking the most popular tours, including the Cliffs of Moher, Kilkenny City, and Glendalough. Most tour buses have pickup points within a few minutes' walk of the hotel.

Dublin Travel Essentials: A Checklist for US Guests

Planning your trip across the Atlantic? Use this quick checklist to ensure a smooth arrival at Academy Plaza Hotel.

Passport & Documents
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay. US citizens do not currently require a visa for short-term tourism in Ireland.

Power & Tech: Pack a Type G (UK/Ireland) plug adapter.
While we provide hair dryers in every room, remember that US 110V appliances (like flat irons) may require a voltage converter.

Currency & Cards
Ireland uses the Euro (€). Most Dublin shops and the Academy Plaza Hotel are "tap-to-pay" friendly. Ensure your credit card has a chip and notify your bank of your travel dates.

Arrival Logistics
If you are landing before 10:00 AM, remember you can drop your bags at our 24-hour reception immediately.
Grab a fresh coffee at Academy Coffee while you wait for your room to be prioritised.

Weather-Ready Gear
Dublin is famous for "four seasons in one day." Pack a light, waterproof layer and comfortable walking shoes - O'Connell Street and the surrounding shopping districts are best explored on foot!

Transport Apps
Download the "Free Now"app for taxis and the "TFI Live" app for real-time bus and Luas (tram) departures from right outside our door.

 Direct Booking Confirmation
Double-check your confirmation email. Remember, by booking direct, your Full Irish Breakfast is already secured and included in your stay.

Is the Academy Plaza Hotel located in a safe area?
Yes, we are located in a well-lit, busy area just off O'Connell Street, Dublin’s main thoroughfare. There is a high level of foot traffic and a 24-hour presence at our reception. Like any major city centre, we recommend staying aware of your surroundings, but our guests generally find the area very convenient and safe for walking to nearby restaurants and attractions.

What is the tipping culture in Dublin?
Tipping in Ireland is appreciated but not as mandatory as in the US. In restaurants, a tip of 10 - 12% is standard for good service. For taxis or hotel staff (like porters), rounding up the fare or a few Euro is a kind gesture. At the Plaza Bar & Grill, you can add a gratuity to your bill or leave it in cash.

Can I use my US credit cards everywhere?
Yes, Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere in Dublin. American Express is accepted at the Academy Plaza Hotel and in larger department stores, though some smaller cafes may not take it. We recommend using a card with "No Foreign Transaction Fees" and always choosing to pay in Euro (€) rather than Dollars if the card machine asks - this usually gives you a better exchange rate!

How do I use public transport in Dublin?
The best way is to buy a "Leap Visitor Card" at the Airport or in local convenience stores (like Spar or Centra, you will find one within a 2-minute walk). It gives you unlimited travel on the Bus, Luas (tram), and DART (coastal train). The Luas "Green Line" stop is just a 2-minute walk from our hotel, which can take you directly to the south side of the city.

Can American guests get a VAT (Tax) refund on shopping?
Yes! As a non-EU resident, you are eligible for a refund on Value Added Tax (VAT) for many goods purchased in Ireland. Keep your receipts and ask for a "Tax-Free Form" at the shop. You can process these at the Customs desk at Dublin Airport before you fly home.

Is there a gym or fitness centre on-site?
Yes, we have a modern Fitness Suite available for all guests. It’s perfect for a quick workout to help beat the jet lag after your flight!

How far is the nearest pub for a "proper" pint of Guinness?
You don't have to go far! The Plaza Bar & Grill serves an excellent pint of the "Black Stuff." If you want to explore the famous Temple Bar pubs, they are just a 10-minute walk across the bridge.

Excellent

We booked the hotel for our group based on the location, in the middle of the city centre. Staff was super friendly and helpful from the start throughout our stay. Rooms were modern, breakfast was very good. We would recommend the hotel and thank again the staff for their assistance during our stay.

Very good

Welcoming, friendly, helpful is the overlying theme. As a regular "Solo" visitor to Dublin, the Academy Plaza Hotel is my usual first stop online for availability. It is wonderfully centrally located, doorstep onto Luas with easy access to business, attractions, & theatres. The hotel offers single rooms, at single rates. The expansive breakfast area is well appointed & amply caters to all tastes. I notice regular staff faces over the years, so they must find it rewarding to work there. For balance, a slight moan, some single rooms seem to be a little tight for the furniture compliment e.g. having to move chair. But overall, accommodation & food fare maintained by amiable, approachable staff, brings me home away from home, every time.

Excellent

I recently stayed at the Academy Plaza Hotel for two nights and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. One of the highlights of my stay was dinner at the hotel restaurant. I ordered the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables, and the staff was more than happy to accommodate a change in sides from the menu, which I really appreciated. The meal was absolutely delicious. I also had a French martini that was truly memorable—the bartender added freeze-dried strawberries on top, which was such a creative and delightful touch. Both the food and drink exceeded my expectations. My room was a single, and while it wasn’t large, it was very clean and comfortable. I slept incredibly well, and I have to mention the shower—it was the hottest I experienced during my entire visit to Ireland, which was a welcome luxury after long days of exploring. In the morning, I enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and was impressed by the coffee machine. I had both a latte and a cappuccino, and both were excellent. The hotel’s location is another major plus. It’s centrally located, making it easy to walk to restaurants, shops, and sightseeing spots around Dublin. I hardly needed transportation during my stay because everything was so accessible. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Dublin. I will definitely be returning on my next trip!

Very good

The hotel is at a very convenient location. The breakfast was great. Our room was clean and comfortable and well equipped. The bathroom ceiling had a spot where the plaster was crumbling and fell down. Other than that, our short stay was wonderful. We'd absolutely stay here again.

Very nice stay for two nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I found the bed to be very firm but my partner was satisfied and slept well. My only complaint was that the coffee was abysmal but luckily there is a cafe in the lobby with delicious options available.
